TSEM Teaching Award

The Office of the Provost is pleased to announce the inaugural ³Ô¹ÏÍø Seminar TSEM Teaching Award to recognize exceptional teaching in TSEM courses during the 2024-2025 academic year. This award will celebrate three TSEM faculty who demonstrated outstanding commitment to student success through innovative and effective TSEM instruction.

Nomination Process

Students and colleagues are invited to nominate faculty members who have made a significant impact through their TSEM teaching. Nominations should briefly highlight how the faculty member has excelled in teaching TSEM through methods such as:

  • fostering meaningful student engagement
  • supporting research skills and revision processes
  • building an inclusive classroom community
  • facilitating effective communication
  • implementing innovative teaching approaches
  • connecting course content to broader educational goals 

No self-nominations will be accepted.

  • Monday, April 21 - Friday, May 9 

Award Details

  • Recipients will receive a $750 honorarium and a certificate of recognition.
  • Awards will be presented at the faculty/staff welcome back event in Fall 2025.

Important Dates

  • Nominations Open — Monday April 21, 2025
  • Nominations Close — Friday, May 9, 2025
  • Application Materials for Nominated Faculty Due — Friday, June 13, 2025 
  • Decision Announced — Fall 2025

Application Materials

After nominations close, nominated faculty will be contacted. Those who wish to be considered for the award will be asked to submit:

  1. the syllabus from the TSEM section for which they were nominated
  2. a sample assignment or activity from that TSEM section
  3. a brief TSEM teaching statement (1 page) highlighting pedagogical approaches
  4. a letter of support from their department chair

Selection Process

A subcommittee of the TSEM Advisory Board will review all complete applications and make recommendations to the Office of the Provost. Selection will be based on evidence of teaching excellence, innovation, and positive impact on students.
