Non-degree enrollment is the best choice for students who are not interested in earning a degree at TU and wish to take a few courses for personal, professional or academic reasons.
To be considered for admission as a non-degree student you must meet one of the following criteria:
College graduates must hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited U.S. institution.
Note: Students who earned their degree from TU do not need to submit official transcripts.
Visiting students must be currently attending another college or university and have a wish to earn specific course credits at TU that will transfer back to their school.
Note: Students who attend a University System of Maryland institution should not apply as a non-degree student. Instead, they must follow their institution’s IIR process or check if they qualify for .
Students age 60 or older must have turned 60 by the first day of the semester.
Retired Maryland residents who are 60 years of age or older and not working full-time are eligible for the Golden I.D. Tuition Waiver Program. Golden I.D. students may enroll for up to 11 units in the fall and spring terms (8 units in the summer session) and pay a discounted fee rate.
Participants may take courses for audit or on a space-available basis (independent
study / directed reading courses, ³Ô¹ÏÍø Learning Network (TLN) programs, Applied
Information Technology (AIT) and some satellite campus programs are excluded).
High-school juniors and seniors may enroll part-time at TU and earn college credits in approved courses while still attending high school.
Note: Home-schooled students must send the most recent curriculum evaluation from their supervising organization.
Special permission from TU is required (not guaranteed) to take upper-level (300-level or higher) courses.
You must complete your application (application link below) and submit the application fee.
A $50 non-deferrable, non-refundable fee is required with your application.

Continuous enrollment is available for non-degree applicants who are college graduates or age 60+. Students can register during open enrollment for all terms.
Registration in any particular course is subject to the approval of the department offering that course. We advise that you contact the academic department(s) in which you are interested in taking courses, for guidance on which courses are eligible for registration based on pre-requisite requirements and course availability.
