Accelerated English B.S./Professional Writing M.S.
Fast track your way to a writing career.

Take up to three (3) graduate courses that count towards your undergraduate degree in English and graduate degree in Professional Writing with this accelerated bachelor’s-master’s degree program.
After completing your bachelor’s in English requirements you will apply for admission to the Master’s in Professional Writing Program during the first term of senior year and enter the master’s program during the first term of your fifth year.
You can count 9 graduate units per term toward your undergraduate degree, beginning in the summer following your junior year. The units you take will be double-counted toward fulfilling the 120 units required for the B.S. in English and the 36 units required for the M.S. in Professional Writing.
Coursework Requirements
The classes you take will fulfill the both undergraduate requirement in language or criticism and the requirements for workshop or studio courses. The following course will fulfill the requirements for language or criticism:
- PRWR 617: Editing
Additionally you can choose from two of the following courses to fulfill the requirements for workshop or studio courses:
- PRWR 611: Rhetoric
- PRWR 612: Rhetorical Grammar
- PRWR 615: Style
- PRWR 627: Cultural Rhetoric and Literacies

About Our Students

Admission to the Accelerated English B.S./Professional Writing M.S. program is limited and competitive. In order to participate, students must meet all of the following requirements:
- be on the writing track in English
- maintain a 3.30 GPA
A student who is ineligible to participate or who withdraws from the accelerated degree program cannot double-count any courses for both bachelor’s and master’s degrees.
Admission Process
Admission to the Master's in Professional Writing Program
You can apply for admission to the Master’s in Professional Writing Program during the first term of your senior year and enter the master’s program during the first term of your fifth year. In order to complete the master's degree, you must have completed the bachelor's portion of the track and received a grade of B or better in the double-counted graduate level courses.
